How to get and set up the NIMC mobile app

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) mobile app, introduced by the NIMC, serves as a digital gateway to managing your identity in Nigeria. The app offers a visual representation of your National Identity card with a QR code for verification, along with features to verify other registered Nigerians’ identities, manage the phone numbers linked to your National Identity Number (NIN), track who has verified your identity, securely access Federal Government portals with a one-time PIN, manage the registrations of your dependents under 16 years old, and consolidate various Nigerian identity documents into one harmonized database.

Follow these simple steps to get the app:

  • Download the app from the Play Store or Apple Store.
  • Launch the app and tap ‘Skip’ to continue without reading the introduction.
  • Enter your NIN and click ‘Next’. If you’ve forgotten your NIN, dial *346# from the phone used during registration to retrieve it.
  • Accept the terms and conditions by clicking the “I Agree” button.
  • Verify your phone number to ensure it matches the number used during your NIN registration. If it doesn’t, you can update it via the NIMC Self-Service portal at https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng/.
  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered phone number.
  • Wait for the app to connect to the NIMC server and generate encryption keys.
  • Set a 6-digit PIN to secure access to the app.
