Get a SCUML certificate


Introduction

The Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) certificate is a requirement for Designated Non-Financial Institutions (DNFIs) in Nigeria by regulatory authorities to combat money laundering and terrorist financing by ensuring compliance with regulations that detect and prevent illicit financial activities.

What you need

  • For Limited Liability Companies
    • Certificate of incorporation
    • Memorandum and articles of association
    • Status report (form CAC 1.1 or CAC 2 and CAC 7)
    • Tax Identification Number (TIN) printout
  • Business Names
    • Certificate of registration of business name
    • Status report (form BN 01 – proprietor’s particulars)
    • Tax Identification Number (TIN) printout
    • Evidence of registration with member associations/professional or regulatory bodies (if applicable)
  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)/Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs)
    • Certificate of incorporation/registration
    • Incorporation of trustees (form CAC 7)
    • Constitution or memorandum and articles of association
  • State Registrations/Associations
    • Certificate of registration from the State
    • Constitution
    • Copies of valid identification of at least 3 executive members
  • International NGOs/NPOs
    • Evidence of registration with the National Planning Commission (NPC)
    • Constitution
    • Organisational profile

How to apply

  • Visit the SCUML website at https://scuml.efcc.gov.ng/
  • Click on the “Register for SCUML certificate” tab
  • Fill out the registration form and attach all required documents in a single PDF file (maximum size: 2.5MB)
  • Click the “Submit” button to complete your application
  • Log back in and track your application under the “Check Registration Status” tab by entering your RC or BN number.
  • Once your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation email at your registered email address indicating the issuance of your SCUML certificate.
  • Log back in to download your certificate.
  • Follow the link in the email to complete the online sensitization and submit your acknowledgement.

Note that the process typically takes 7–14 working days. Once completed, you can download a digital certificate. However, the original CAC certificate must be presented before the SCUML certificate can be collected. If your application is rejected, you have 48 hours from the time of rejection to log in with your details and make necessary corrections. After the 48-hour window, the application will be deleted from the SCUML system, and you will have to submit a new application.

Payment

The SCUML certificate is completely free and does not attract any fee.
