Apply for a waste and toxic substances permit


Introduction

The waste and toxic substances permit is required for issues relating to waste generation, restricted chemicals, sludge disposal and effluent discharge.

What You Need

  • Certificate of incorporation issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
  • Last three-year Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC).
  • Environmental Audit Report (EAR) or Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) detailing the environmental impact of the proposed operation.
  • Environmental Management Plan (EMP) outlining waste handling, treatment, and disposal procedures.
  • Detailed site or factory layout showing collection, recycling, treatment, or disposal facilities.
  • Proof of payment of the prescribed application fee through the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
  • Completed waste and toxic substances permit application form.

How to apply

  • Visit the NEIMS Portal and create an account or log in to an existing account, either as a consultant or a company.
  • Complete your registration and provide all required information.
  • Upload the required supporting documents in the specified format.
  • Submit your application for review. If any corrections are needed, you will receive guidance on how to make adjustments for faster approval.
  • NESREA will inspect the facility as part of the evaluation process.
  • Upon successful assessment and approval, pay the applicable permit fees.
  • Receive your permit, accreditation, or certification digitally.

Payment

The fee for obtaining a waste and toxic substances permit varies depending on the type and scale of the operation. However, permits issued by NESREA generally range from approximately ₦20,000 to ₦50,000. Payments are made through the designated Treasury Single Account (TSA) channels.
