Introduction
Nigerians can now register a child’s birth and obtain an official birth certificate online through the National Population Commission (NPC) self-service portal. This service is available only for children born in Nigeria who have a National Identification Number (NIN), with at least one parent being Nigerian and having a valid birth certificate.
What you need
- National Identification Number (NIN)
- Active phone number and valid e-mail.
How to apply
- Visit the NPC website at https://birthreg-selfservice.nationalpopulation.gov.ng/ and navigate to the “Services” section. Select “Birth Registration (Self Service)” from the available options.
- Click to check the ‘I have read and clearly understood the above instructions’ at the bottom of the page select ‘New Application’ and enter your email address in the provided space to receive a payment reference number via email.
- Enter the reference number and pay online using the secure payment gateway.
- Once your payment is confirmed, proceed to complete the online registration form with the necessary details. Ensure all information is accurate and upload any required documents.
- Review all entered information and submit your application.
- Use the reference number provided to track the status of your application. You will be notified upon completion and can download your official birth certificate from your NPC account.
Payment
Birth registration for children under the age of 5 years is free, while the fee for children aged 5 years and older is N2,000.00, payable online.
