Introduction
Nigerians can now easily register and obtain a death notification certificate online for deceased individuals through the National Population Commission (NPC) self-service portal.
What you need
- National Identification Number (NIN) of the informant and deceased
- A valid email address and phone number
- Applicable proof of death
How to apply
- Visit the National Population Commission website at https://nationalpopulation.gov.ng/ and navigate to the Death Notification (self-service) section under the ‘Services’ menu.
- Read the guidelines carefully and check the box indicating ‘I have read and clearly understood the above guidelines,’ then select ‘Start Application’ to begin.
- Provide the details of the deceased, including the cause of death, and select a registration center.
- Enter the particulars of informant, including the relationship with the deceased, and sign the application.
- Upload the required documents, including proof of death.
- Review your information and submit the application.
- After successful registration, you will receive an email with a digital copy of the certificate.
Payment
Registration for the death certificate is free of charge.
